THE Disney movie Aladdin is very special to me because as a new mother in 1997, I would put my baby to sleep while singing “A Whole New World.” Okay, I am a horrible singer but a mother has to do what she has to do. I spent hours singing that song. To this day, my daughter and I consider that song “ours.”
The upcoming release of the live action adaptation of this animated classic has given way to a new version of the song (by Zayn Malik and Zhavia Ward), and I love it as much as the original version.
Thus, the news that one of the world’s biggest beauty brands, a personal favorite, is collaborating with the movie is news that’s very much anticipated. This, however, isn’t the first time the brand is collaborating with Disney.
In celebration of Disney’s all-new Aladdin, MAC Cosmetics has launched a special-edition, opulently packaged collection created to coincide with the release of the thrilling and vibrant live-action adaptation of the classic.
“MAC has teamed up with Disney to unveil a sumptuous range of lip, cheek and eye colors inspired by the beautiful self-determined Jasmine. This exciting new collaboration highlights the strength and beauty of Jasmine, with a color collection that shows she is confident and strong-willed, inspiring all of us to express ourselves in any way we desire.
Who needs an enchanted lamp to make their dreams a reality? With the Cave of Wonders-worthy array of metallics, mattes, shimmers, and jewel-tones of Disney’s Aladdin Collection by MAC, makeup lovers enter a world where fantasies are fulfilled, and any look—from dramatic to demure—can be created with ease. Each item included in the collection will be adorned with special packaging inspired by the rich patterns and vibrant colors of Agrabah where Aladdin and Jasmine’s exciting story unfolds. Guaranteed to delight makeup addicts and Disney fans alike, Disney’s Aladdin Collection by MAC will be at the top of every collector’s wish list,” said the brand in a media release.
The collection includes four Lipsticks (P1,550): Friend Like Me (cool neutral beige in Amplified finish), Princess Incognito (neutral pinky rose in Matte finish), Rajah (muted red berry in Matte finish), and Whole New World (bright blue pink in Velvet Matte finish). All shades are limited edition.
I expect the best sellers to be Princess Incognito and Rajah, although Whole New World could be a dark horse.
There are three shades of Lipglass. Diamond in the Rough is gold with gold and pink pearl; Jewels on Jewels is a warm pink with gold shimmer, while Magic Carpet Ride is light pink with a pink pearl. All shades are limited edition.
The Crystal Glaze Gloss (P1,400) in a shade called Wish is a potted clear gloss that adds a hint of multicolored pearl to the lips is something similar to the one released in the Cinderella collection years ago, except that one was for the eyes.
The Powder Blush (P1,900), which comes in bigger pans, have two shades. Always One Jump Ahead is a Frost in gold with gold shimmer, while Your Wish Is My Command is a Matte in a deep golden brown. The blushes both have the genie’s magic lamp embossed in the powder.
The Princess Jasmine eyeshadow palette (P3,000) has nine metallic and matte shades inspired by the desert. The retractable pencil named Graphblack Black (P1,200) completes the look.
There is a single Pigment in Rose (P1450), which has a pinkish tint and copper sparkle.
The 13-piece collection will be available at MAC boutiques and counters on May 22, the same day the movie opens worldwide.
