1. One foundation shade is not enough

‘Always have two foundation shades in your make-up bag,’ advises Sir John. Might seem like a bit of an investment but ‘no face is all the same colour, in the summer it’s always better to go a bit warmer but in the winter, when skin is paler, you can always use your summer shade as a bronzer to add a touch of warmth’.

Multi-masking your foundation? Genius.

2. Make your blusher Coachella-proof

As much as we might try, we are, in fact, not Beyoncé. But, we do want a base that lasts as long as Bey’s did when she headlined Coachella.

Sir John reveals that the key is duality, ‘I'll layer a powder blush on top of a cream blush, so that when you see Beyoncé whipping her face with a towel mid-performance, nothing comes off and she still looks flawless’. And that means, if it works for Bey at Coachella, it'll works for us on the Central Line as well. YAS.

3. Contouring is so 2018

Put the contour stick down and step away from the baking powder, Sir John confirmed that the contouring era is officially over. ‘Contouring is so off putting for the working woman, it’s really not a good look for anyone,' the make-up maestro disclosed.

'I like to sculpt instead, using a cool bronzer, this hollows out the cheekbones to enhance your bone structure, rather than changing the shape of the face.'

4. Keep the concealer to a minimum

‘I look at these girls on YouTube and cringe at how much concealer they apply', admits Sir John. ‘Less is more with concealer, if you swipe the wand under the eye there’s going to be too much product, which means it will crease no matter what you do’.

Instead he dots concealer around the eye area, and then blends in with a fluffy brush. 'Never use a stiff brush to blend, it picks up too much product, whereas a fluffy one will achieve an airbrushed look and save you blending time’.

Another do-not-do is loose powder, ‘It’s way too heavy for the under-eye area. Your skin isn't naturally matte, so a little bit of shine makes it look healthy’.

5. Cheat a boy brow

The beauty guru’s secret for faking a full brow? Pritt Stick. No, really.

'It’s the best brow gel in the world. It keeps the brow in place all day and is a great base to draw on fine hairs, if you don’t have them naturally’. If you need us, we'll be in WHSmith’s.
